India Launches Affordable PC in Partnership with AMD and HCL
India's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dayanidhi Maran, has unveiled a low-cost PC based on x86 microprocessor technology provided by AMD and HCL, a leading Indian computer manufacturer. The new PC — India's most affordable home computer — is available across India for Rs.9,990 (US $232). For Rs.11,240 (US $261), it comes bundled with Microsoft Windows XP Starter Edition. Both devices feature an AMD x86 1600MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 40GB hard disk, 15-inch color monitor, 52x optical drive, keyboard, and scroll mouse. Speaking at the launching ceremony, Maran said, "AMD's 50x15 vision shows AMD's commitment to develop relevant technology solutions for India's needs."
