AIF and 50x15 deploy learning labs in schools in Bangalore and Hyderabad
On November 29, 2007 AMD and the AIF collaborated to launch the first of two labs in India (Bangalore, then Hyderabad) empowering children of modest means with technology. Viveka, Sanskrit for “the power of the intellect,” was designed to build local ecosystems with partners that provide affordable Internet access. The lab in Bangalore is designed to help the more than 200 students of Government High School, Doddenakundi, attain a global level of digital competency and bridge the digital divide between rural and urban student communities in the region. The second lab was launched in Hyderabad on February 4, 2008, where nearly 500 students at the Government Girls School in West Marredpally were impacted. Both projects will prove useful to both AIF and AMD who can leverage each other’s expertise to put together a compelling solution for the children in the respective schools in Hyderabad and Bangalore.
The AIF is a leading international development organization charged with the mission of accelerating social and economic change in India. AIF awards grants to education, livelihood, and public health projects in India and also administers two programs, its Service Corps and its Digital Equalizer (DE) program.
The mission of the DE program is to advance the use of technology to engage, educate, enrich and empower India's underserved children. DE seeks to bridge the digital and educational divide in India by providing computers, software, Internet access and training to children and teachers in underprivileged schools across the country.
